BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Our board members are volunteers representing several communities. They meet an average of eight times a year to oversee the non-profit organization. Other duties performed by board members and volunteers include preparing mailings of information, tickets and schedules, setting up the stage for performances, serving musicians’ meals prior to performances and handling ticket sales and collections at concerts.

is a native of the Louisville area, a graduate of Georgetown College, and holds a Masters Degree in Church Music from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. He has served as a minister of music at First Baptist Church in London since 1983. Jerry was the catalyst for the strings class being taught at First Baptist, and is one of the founding board members of the London Community Orchestra. Jerry and his wife Sheri have two daughters, Melody and Kristi Jo.
Sharon Brophy Bridget Dunaway Danny Phelps Donna Taylor
Sharon Brophy
possesses as associate degree in nursing from Northern Kentucky Community College, and was employed as an RN for 20 years at Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin, Kentucky. She studied voice privately and at The Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio. She performed 10 years in “the Cotton Follies” affiliated with the Redwood Cerebral Palsy School in Northern Kentucky. She has been a member of The London Community Chorus for 20 years. She currently is a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Corbin, Kentucky, and directs the adult and children’s choirs. She and her husband reside in London, Kentucky.
Bridget Dunaway
holds a J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law, and has been a practicing attorney since 1989. She also holds a B.A. in music from Eastern Kentucky University, having studied flute. She continues to play flute in the London Community Orchestra and other local musical organizations, and has taught flute privately. Ms. Dunaway currently serves as a director of the London-Laurel County Chamber of Commerce and as a director of the United Way, and is a member of several state and national attorney organizations. She is admitted to practice law in all State and Federal Courts in Kentucky, the Sixth Circuit Federal Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Danny Phelps
received both his B.A. and M.A. in teaching from Union College, and a B.A. in business administration from Eastern Kentucky University. He teaches part time at St. Camillus Academy in Corbin, Kentucky. He has served on the London City Council since 2002 and is a local business owner. Mr. Phelps is an accomplished pianist, playing both locally and regionally as an entertainer. He also teaches several private piano students in his studio. Mr. Phelps has been involved with several arts organizations. He serves as part time church organist/pianist on a rotating basis between First Baptist Church and First Presbyterian Church of London.

Jack Walker
is a retired music educator from London, Kentucky. During his 30-year career, he taught band in Fayette County, Hazard, and Laurel County. He also served as interim director at Danville High School and Nicolet High School in Glendale, Wisconsin. Mr. Walker has served in several state offices of KMEA. He is active as an adjudicator, conductor and clinician, as well as participating in local musical organizations in the London area. During the summer, he and J. Larry Moore serve as education directors at Lion’s Camp Crescendo. He is the recipient of the 2006 KMEA Distinguished Service Award. He is the director of the London Community Orchestra. He is a graduate of Georgetown College.
Carolyn Wooten
a native of Indiana, is a retired registered nurse, having served as a Lieutenant in the U. S. Navy Nurse Corps, school nurse, and as a nurse instructor in the V.A.M.C., Anderson (Indiana) Community Schools, and Anderson Community Hospital. She has served in a number of positions with several organizations, including the London Women’s Club, London-Laurel County Newcomers, AMGRO Master Gardeners, Laurel County Extension Council and Laurel County Homemakers, Bennett Center Fund-raising, Faith in Action Volunteers, and Welcome Committee at St. Williams Catholic Church. She is a former band, orchestra, and choir student, and has five children and four grandchildren.
